Diagnostic Algorithm for Conjunctival Melanocytic Lesions

BACKGROUND/AIM This study aimed to develop an algorithm allowing the differentiation between conjunctival melanoma and other melanocytic infiltrations of conjunctiva, on basis a dermatoscopic examination. PATIENTS AND METHODS A total 160 pigmented lesions were studied (40 melanomas 120 non-melanoma infiltrations). The clinical characteristics tumours assessed with use as described by Kittler, taking into consideration typical lesions. RESULTS On modified criteria, was generated consisting assessment presence 9 suspicious characteristics, e.g. more than two colours, colour asymmetry, pattern vascular polymorphism, short vessels, linear pattern, peripheral structureless area, grey area black dots in any part lesion. these scores 1 point. If lesion ≥3 points, probability diagnosing is level p>0.001. CONCLUSION proposed algorithm, based may be valuable tool for diagnosis melanoma.
